About Us

In the spirit of a 1960’s high school English teacher who taught that all similes are metaphors, but not all metaphors are similes—and adding that analogies, if not metaphors or similes in the strictest sense, come close enough—we at A Million Metaphors have self-importantly decided to refer to all three as metaphors.

We invite you add metaphors you yourself have given birth to or to add your favorite metaphors written or said by others. You can also, correct or complete any existing entry, as well as place explanatory sentences in the “Notes” section of each entry.

Here is an example:

The metaphor: Life is a great tapestry.

An explanation: Life is an immense and miraculous pattern.

And, of course, if you are looking for the ideal metaphor to add the wow factor to your writing or speaking, please, search away.

Above all, we hope you enjoy your visit.

Cheers,
Steve Mettee
